Political corruption is reaching a boiling point

Posted by admin

The OWS movement is proof positive that people are starting to not only take notice of political corruption, they’re willing to do something about it. Say what you will about the young people that make up the majority of the movement, but at least they’re out there doing something other than sitting at home complaining to the TV. While they have a wide range of issues that range from the logical–getting rid of lobbying and private campaign contributions– to the insane–wiping away all debt for everyone– I believe eventually they movement will crystalize around the idea of removing private campaign contributions. This is what skews our laws and screws up the system because the only people with the power, wealth, and lobbyists to fund these campaigns are corporations and the super wealthy. This leads to laws that are heavily skewed in their favor at the expense of the other 99% of the population. Until that corrupting factor is removed from the equation, you can’t really have real compromise on the issues that matter, or bipartisan support for the large number of issues that both parties could agree on but for the influence of money.
